Testing your own typing speed
Today we'll use our spreadsheets to help us find the average (or "mean") of some data. We're going to use a site that will test your typing speed to give us data on our typing speed and accuracy.
Also, it will allow you to have a typing race with other people as well. But if you don't want to type up against another person, you can play single player games as well.
Here's the info for setting up your spreadsheet.
1. Open up a new Excel spreadsheet.
2. Put these labels on your columns going across: Game, Words Correct, Words Incorrect, Letters Correct, Letters Incorrect, Letters Skipped.
3. Underneath "Game" (should be column A), put the numbers from 1 to 15.
4. When you go to http://www.rankmytyping.com , you can play a single player or mulitplayer game in which you type for 60 seconds.
5. After the game is over, make sure you get your results for Words Correct, Words Incorrect, Letters Correct, Letters Incorrect, and Letters Skipped. Type those into your spreadsheet for Game #1.
6. Play a total of 15 games....make sure you enter your results every time.
7. Once you are done with your 15 games, you need to calculate the AVERAGE for each category. In Row 20, underneath each of your typing results.....click on the little arrow to the right of the crazy looking "E" we've used to total our results before today. DO NOT CLICK THE "E" itself. By clicking the little arrow next to the "E" you get a choice of options....select "AVERAGE." Then hit enter.
8. Find the average for Words Correct, Words Incorrect, Letters Correct, Letters Incorrect, and Letters Skipped.
