who was the nba mvp?
Today we're going to make our own spreadsheet to see if we can calculate the results of the NBA MVP voting. I'm not going to be quite as detailed in the instructions, since we all learned how to do this yesterday.
1. Label your columns as this: Name, 1st Place, 2nd Place, 3rd Place, 4th Place, 5th Place, TOTAL PTS
2. Put these names underneath your column for "NAME": Derrick Rose, Dwight Howard, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, Dwayne Wade, Manu Ginobli, Amar'e Stoudemire, Blake Griffin, Rajon Rondo, Tony Parker, Chris Paul
3. Here are the votes that each player got. Put these numbers in the correct spot for each player:
Derrick Rose: 113 for 1st, 6 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd
Dwight Howard: 3 for 1st, 57 for 2nd, 31 for 3rd, 16 for 4th, 11 for 5th
LeBron James: 4 for 1st, 26 for 2nd, 39 for 3rd, 31 for 4th, 12 for 5th
Kobe Bryant, 1 for 1st, 18 for 2nd, 32 for 3rd, 40 for 4th, 12 for 5th
Kevin Durant: 6 for 2nd, 10 for 3rd, 20 for 4th, 38 for 5th
Dirk Nowitzki: 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd, 11 for 4th, 30 for 5th
Dwayne Wade: 1 for 2nd, 1 for 3rd, 2 for 4th, 6 for 5th
Manu Ginobli: 2 for 2nd, 6 for 5th
Amar'e Stoudemire: 1 for 3rd, 4 for 5th
Blake Griffin: 1 for 3rd
Rajon Rondo: 1 for 3rd
Tony Parker: 1 for 4th
Chris Paul: 2 for 5th
3. You need to enter the correct formula in G2 to calculate the right point values. Here is what it should look like. =SUM(B2*10+C2*7+D2*5+E2*3+F2*1) This means you get 10 pts for a 1st place vote, 7 pts for a 2nd place vote, 5 pts for a 3rd place vote, 3 pts for a 4th place vote, and 1 pt for a 5th place vote.
4. Derrick Rose should have 1182 pts. If you don't get this, ask me for help. If that's what you got for his total, then spread the formula down to fill up the pts for the other players.
